This work thing has really cramped my style. j/k. :)

Anyway, just writing up a few thoughts about Colorado since moving here.

1. Having a job is really nice. It has helped us get connected with people a lot faster then up in Montana. I've learned a ton about the area from my coworkers. They have been really cool and has made the transition here very comfortable. Next time we move I'll make sure to have a job first. :)

2. The weather here has been amazing. Hotter then I expected but really nice. We've seen 90+ temps several days. The sun feels hotter then Texas believe it or not. Just easier to deal with due to the low humidity. The mornings and nights have been so amazing. I can't wait for the winter when we get to see the snow. Etta is going to experience some cool things!!!

3. There are a lot more things to do here then Montana. I mean a ton. Its like you have the best of a small town and the big city. I enjoy downtown Denver, lots of activity and energy. Its nice that all the professional sports are located there. Its a really neat place. Plus the mountains are really cool. Love Golden, and Morrison. Boulder is fun. Lots of places to go camping, exploring and spend the day outdoors. Tons of hiking/biking trails, lakes, parks...yada yada yada.

4. Katie and I have been getting more attached to each other every day. It seems being away from family has brought us closer together. That's pretty cool if you ask me. We're really blessed to have the opportunity to be here and explore while we still have no kids. Spend the early part of our marriage focused on each other. Funny how that worked out.

Thank you

It has been a great pleasure for both Katie and I to have so many friends and family visiting us here in Denver. June 21st is when we will get our new keys to an apartment in Englewood near my new job. Today we updated all our addresses, contacted our auto insurance and bank accounts, scheduled a turn off of all utilities, sold 3 items on craigslist, packed the entire 2nd bedroom, visited Bozeman Encounters and saw four Grizzly Bears, very cool and relaxing :), reserved our U-haul and movers, scheduled carpet cleaning (per our contract), and ate snow cones all before 515pm.

Now we're going to eat some Turkey burgers, home cooked fries and salad and enjoy a movie or tv.

Ahhh, the excitement and joys of moving!!!!

Baby Knickerbocker's Aventures

So Katie and I have been keeping track of all the adventures Baby Knickerbocker has experienced so far. It's informative, educational, and the best thing about it, it's FUNNY! I've read some of it to Katie and we can't help but crack up. It has helped ease of lot of tension about the "unknowns", putting things in perspective. Here are a few words of advice it gives the "expectant father". :)

< NEVER ask her, "Are you sure you're hungry? You just ate."
< Gain 30 pounds (just to show her you're totally committed)
< Massage a body part of hers you don't usually touch.
< Do the dishes (but load the dishwasher properly - See tip #46)
< Allow her to win every argument. We ended up taking a short hike from our camp ground in Mammoth. We had to cross a narrow metal suspension bridge over the river. We didn't know at the time, but just further downstream this river meets up with a natural hot spring. They call it "Boiling River." You can bath in it just as long as you don't put your head under. It was nice easy hike near our campsite. Trying not to overdue ourselves. As we were hiking we were approached by hundreds of prairie dogs. They were everywhere!! And not afraid of us. Two bison decided to graze in a grass field just in front of our tent. One even rolled over to scratch his back. You can see him laying down on the right. These guys decided again to visit that evening. This time they were in middle of the campground just grazing on whatever they can find. We got them on video as well as an curious elk. Wildlife is abundant here! Which is why this is one of my favorite national parks!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pqOyDqCcvjc/S_CGtnTomjI/AAAAAAAAAIc/tf3SXEWwiO8/s320/IMG_0457.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5472021665458723378" />
Had to be the most spectacular and beautiful sites we have ever seen! It's called Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. We wanted to hike down to the river, but the trail was closed due to ice. We ended up taking this picture from a bench where we had lunch. The colors, the shear size, the sounds of the waterfall it was truly amazing.

Wavin' Flag

I first heard this song on Austin City Lights a few months ago. Katie and I ended up having lunch outside at this place called Garage the Soup Shack & Mesquite Grill. The food was good, service was slow (typically around here) and it was packed! It's located downtown near the library.

It kinda reminds me of an old diner you would find in the 50s. The menus are made out of old license plates. They served mostly burgers with fries but they also had barbecue chicken and soups and stuff. On the tables they had old Pepsi six pack bottle holders, containing the condiments and on some tables had trivia pursuit game cards. I guess to keep you entertained while you wait for your food.

We probably stayed there 2 hours, enjoying the sun and atmosphere. Lots of motorcycles zoomed by. People were riding their bicycles and walking their dogs. You could also find water bowls under some of the tables for customers who brought their dogs with them.

It was nice to see the city out and about and enjoying the weather. And it was nice to be a part of it too. We really like this place.
Ps. Yes my eyes were closed. It was really sunny today. :)

Montana Weather

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pqOyDqCcvjc/S8o8Iow4CtI/AAAAAAAAAGk/2hBCO2aStrM/s320/IMG_8907.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461243617219185362" />
So we moved here Oct 1st. That was the day Bozeman saw its first snow of the season. We were pretty worried back then but it didn't last long, as the temps went back up and the snow melted. It turns out, this Winter has been very mild. Local news as well as my fly fishing instructor said we have seen 30% less participation this winter. I guess that's not good for fishing or skiing but kinda good for us and our sense of safety.

We did experience -24 temps with -40 wind chill. But even that wasn't that bad. We stayed in mostly and wore many layers. We didn't loose our toes or eyeballs. We didn't have to use our block heater or the emergency kit everyone here told us to have in our car. We did use our 4x4 often. I think it helped up get used to driving on the snow. But after awhile we stopped using it because it sucked up a lot of gas and we really didn't need it.

Most of the winter was in the 20's and 30's. And honestly, Winter here is pretty lame. I think the locals make it sound bad so you won't move up here, take over their homes and cause traffic. Which by the way is really nice. No lines at the ski resort, no traffic ever and its quiet and peaceful. People actually drive below the speed limit and they don't lock their doors at night. I mean why would you lock your door when every single home owner owns a gun and hearing gun shots are common within the town.

But what IS the worst weather in Montana is the end of Winter beginning of Spring. Just when you think you can put on your shorts and go hiking you get 2 feet of snow dumped on you. This goes on for a long time. But it doesn't stop people from taking advantage of the non snow days. When the temps are perfect, its sunny, dry, and on top of every Suburu, mountain bikes in its Yakima racks instead of ski's and boards. No wonder everyone here is skinny.

Right now, its raining outside! I actually heard thunder too. I've been waiting for this day for a long time! It hasn't rained in Bozeman since we moved here. Looking out the window, hearing and smelling the rain, with the mountains in the background, the spring colors trying to come out, it's amazing. And the best thing is, it's not muggy!!!!

All in all, the weather has been great. I can't imagine what the summer will be like!

Prairie Dogs

Next to our apartment is a field that looks like a war zone. You will find these kinds of holes everywhere. It turns out they were dug recently by Prairie Dogs. Tons of them. I haven't been a lucky as Katie to see any. She went jogging one day and saw several poking their heads out and hissing this high pitched sound at her.

I just find it so surreal to be so close to wildlife. Its literally right in our backyard.

Dad

About you: Broken, guilty, bitter, ugly, fat, liar, wasteful, mean, hurtful, disgusting, selfish

About me: Shamed, embarrassed, disgraced, scared, hurt, abandoned, confused, angry, empty, sad, lost

About you and me: Never

About Him and me:
Forever
Hopeful
Peace
Love
Forgiven
Grace
New
Healing
Father
Family

Ephesians 3:18 - And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love really is.

Working Out

So, I decided to change from the Biggest Loser, Yoga, Pilates workout I've been doing for awhile now to a more concentrated muscle building workout. I got this book called "Men's Health Hard Body Workout Plan" and in it several weeks of specific exercises and meal plans. The idea is to focus on 3 things. Muscle building, cardio, and flexibility.

My goal is to look like this:

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 190px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pqOyDqCcvjc/S8ObZ3264FI/AAAAAAAAAF0/oiCDOuU7vFo/s200/bodybuilding.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5459378042096509010" />

Just KIDDING!!!!

Actually I just want to build some definition, loose some fat, and get a little stronger. I'm pretty optimistic about this plan because it tells me exactly what I need to do. No guess work. I'm on week 2. So far I've gained 5 pounds. I'm not sure if that's good or bad? And I don't feel much stronger but it's still early.

Here's what I learned so far:
1. Buying rusty metal plates from thrift stores can help save you money
2. Its best to clean the rust off, otherwise you might get it in your eyes or sandwich you are eating
3. Using a metal chair as a bench can work, just be prepared to put a cushion under it so you don't pinch your skin

I'm also running, doing biggest loser yoga, biggest loser sculpting and pilates occasionally. I'm documenting all my workouts and nutrition on my iphone. I'm making sure I rest, drink enough water, and eat enough good foods.

Keep you posted on the results...

'Pixels' short film imagines an apocalypse

Saw this from one of my friends the other day and thought it was a neat video.

PIXELS by PATRICK JEAN.
Uploaded by onemoreprod. - Arts and animation videos.

Snowboarding Season Is Now Over

It was a sad day, but a good day.

Last Tuesday Bridger Bowl's closed out its season. And man, it was a great season!!!! One we will never forget. I learned how to snowboard "for real" and I even tried a few jumps here and there. And Katie is now a switch rider, doing 360's. We got plenty of uses out of our season passes, going about 2-3 times a week. It was beautiful, the powder was great most of the time and we had a lot of fun with those who came to visit us.

The locals love this mountain. I can understand. There we're no lines all year and the trails were great. The last day Katie and I pushed ourselves more then any other day. It snowed hard and there was powder everywhere. We even went on a double black diamond!!! Watch out!!!

And we got to see so many people dressed up in costume on the last day, doing all kinds of tricks. One guy did a back flip. I was shocked!!!! And at the very end of the day, everyone started screaming at the top of their lungs!!! We joined in too!!

From the first lift to the last lift of the day, thanks Bridger for all the great memories!!!!

See video of Katie and Thomas on the last day.

Jobs, Jobs, and more Jobs

Another long day of looking and applying for jobs. Its been exhausting. Some days I feel hopeful, some days I feel like banging my head against the wall. I have applied to 20+ jobs in the last 3 days. None of them in Montana because I have already applied to every job in town. I knew it would be hard but I didn't expect it to be this hard.

Last time I was unemployed, I found a job in a month. But that was 3 almost 4 years ago when the economy was somewhat okay. Some of my coworkers who have been laid off longer then me are still looking.

Things against me:
I have no degree
I have mostly telecommunication experience, which is a dying industry
I live in a small town, surrounded by small towns

I'm not complaining at all. I'm just frustrated with the results and wish this would end soon. On the positive side, Katie and I are growing together in our relationship more then I can imagine! Just the other day Katie said to me, I don't like change but I do like going through change with you by my side!

I don't know what to expect for us in the next few months. Maybe we will find a job here, maybe we will find a job in Colorado or Arizona or Atlanta or back home in Texas. I do know this.

Tomorrow I will be looking and applying for more jobs. I just pray I feel hopeful because my head hurts from all the banging against the wall.

Packing, storing, organizing!

Well, we started packing this week for our move to Montana. It has been a slow & chaotic process to say the least. Its really amazing how much we have accumulated since we got married.

I have to admit though its been "fun" for me. I have this weird personality (quirk) where I enjoy sorting and organizing things. Today, I worked on the garage. A daunting task for some but for me it was exciting. I sorted through all my nails, screws, and bolts organizing them in their respectable categories. I put all my sockets and tools in their rightful place. I had a system, a nice pace. The weather was perfect. ESPN radio playing in the background. Honestly, hours went by and I barely noticed....

We still have a lot more to go which is fine by me. Next week the kitchen. I can hardly wait!!

I bought cat food for my dog yesterday

I decided on my lunch break to go to Petsmart to get DOG food for Jack. But instead I bought cat food. You heard me right. I bought cat food for my dog and now your probably wondering why? Let me try explain what goes on in my little head. :)

So Jack, is on a special food. We found out that they sell that kind of food at Petsmart. Which was convenient and a little cheaper. So I grabbed a big bag and stood in a long line. There was only 1 choice for a cashier.

When it got to my turn the cashier asked me if I had a prescription for this "cat" food. I panicked! What? A prescription? Cat food?! The line was really long behind me and I said what was the first thing that came to my mind...

"Oh, I didn't know I had to have my prescription. I think I left it at home."

At this point all I wanted to do was to get out of there as fast as I can! I was embarrassed and I felt a little guilty, like I was trying to buy a bag of food w/o approval. How could I do such a thing?!?

I had a prescription. It was at home. But it wasn't for CAT FOOD!

She began telling me why they require it. What the food is all about. How it works, etc etc etc. I told her, "No problem. I'll just go home and get prescription and I can leave this "cat" food here and get it later!"

I guess she felt bad for me. Maybe she saw the fear on my face or how it was bright red. So she said, "I'll tell you what. I'll let you get this bag of CAT food this time. But in the future make sure to bring the prescription"

Well, wasn't she nice!

So I found myself in a bad situation.

a. do i fess up and say oh i meant to get dog food and risk the chance everyone in the line and the cashier would think I was lying about the prescription or that I had brain trauma in my childhood.

OR

b. Buy the cat food.

Guess what I did? I took option b and now i have a $50 bag of cat food.....

This is the story of my life.....

Now I have to go back and return it.....

Why do I do these things to myself.....

baby bird almost takes flight

As some of you might know, we have a nest full of purple martins right above our front door of our house. They come every year flying to and from South America. This year they had several baby birds!

Two of the babies are hanging out on the ground near the front door close to momma and pappa. It seems they are not quite ready for flying yet. Katie and I have to go through the garage door to avoid any accidents!

This morning, one of the babies got some encouragment from momma bird and found their way to the front yard about 15 feet from their nest. The baby bird was flapping it wings really hard and running fast with momma bird right behind. Unfortunately, the baby bird ended up crossing the sidewalk all the way to the busy street! The baby bird just sat there waiting for direction.

After a few minutes I took it upon myself to do some encouraging as well and helped the baby bird make its way back to the yard. I wonder by the time I get back home if the baby bird will have learned how to fly! I hope the other baby bird learns from their big brother!

Here are some more pictures! Hope you enjoy!

Heartworms

Got news on Friday that Jack has heart worms. Took him to the vet this morning for pre-diagnostics which includes, exam, blood profile, radiograph's, and an urinalysis. They need to check his heart, liver & kidneys before they begin the treatment.

Once he's cleared for treatment, they will keep him in the hospital for 2 days injecting him with an Immidicide which is suppose to kill the worms. We then have to wait 3 weeks for additional exams and oral medicine. By week 5, we will test him again and if negative begin monthly heart worm prevention.

Our vet said Wylie has seen more positive cases then normal. She said its due to the nearby lake. Heart worm comes from misqutoe bites. They lay larvae in the blood stream. She said for outside dogs like Jack, its almost certain w/o prevention a dog will get heart worms.

The procedure is pretty safe and successful. So, I'm not too worried. Plus Jack is a fighter. A few days after he was born, my old vet diagnoised him with parvo. Telling me he had 4 days to live. Got a 2nd opinion and they said it was a stomach virus. They perscribed Tamiful, the same stuff used to fight swine flu for humans. Within a few days he was fine!

I miss him a ton and cant wait to get him home soon. He was so excited about going. I wonder if he'll change his mind the next time we visit the vet. :P

Owens Farm

Katie and I took a tour of Owens Farm in Richardson the other day. A much needed break. We fed the goats, said hi to two 1 week old pony's and saw a tiny baby goat. They were cute of course. We got really close to a huge horse named Midnight. Midnight made the big bulls look really tiny. Here are some pictures we took on our cell phone of our fun adventure. Hope you like.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_eoTY8eLm1Y0/SgrhOOW9kgI/AAAAAAAAAF0/pQb0r9402Mg/s200/farm8.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5335324343062598146" />

We were alittle nervous with these longhorns. Its been on our minds for a while now. More on mine then Katie. She has been very supportive throughout all this. It seems every time I get serious about it, the very next day I change my mind. Its really hard to make decision to let go on something that been a part of your life for so long.

Yesterday I typed up an ad with a picture. The picture I had was old so I asked Katie to take a new one today. She sent me these below..... Isn't he cute?

Life is confusing. I don't get it sometimes. He's a dog right? To start we created a simple compost tumbler made out of a plastic food grade barrel we picked up from Craigslist. We used treated 2x6 lumber for the stand (carriage bolts, deck screws to hold it together). For the barrel to flip upside down we used a galvanized 3/4" pipe about 36" long to act as the axle.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_eoTY8eLm1Y0/SdOWPftR5UI/AAAAAAAAAD8/a_G8kKBLyQ0/s200/compost5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319760777808307522" />Inside the center of the barrel is a 3" PVC pipe with drilled holes to help aerate the material inside. It has a screen we glued on the end of the flange to prevent any bee's from making nests and to keep any rodents out that sneak by Jack our friendly dog.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_eoTY8eLm1Y0/SdOWp2C48-I/AAAAAAAAAEE/T3wJFQJglsQ/s200/compost4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319761230481126370" />For our materials inside, we started with a mix of dried up and green grass clippings and leaves. We also added shredded newspaper, pizza box, and straw. We went through our fridge and freezer to find old veggies and fruits. Lettuce, green beans, carrots, banana peels, etc. Whatever we could find that was no longer edible. No picture was taken of the inside yet. Trust me its probably better that way. :)

The hope is in the next 6 to 8 weeks we will have a nice pile of compost to use for Katie's garden and our newly planted trees and shrubs. We'll keep you posted on the results.

What am I going to do?

Katie left to Virginia last night to see her brother's graduation ceremony. I miss her a ton. I realized very quickly how much I need her in my life. So as she often does, I created a list of events while she has been gone:

1. It was really cold in bed last night. I forgot to turn off the ac and I had the fan going full blast. Doh! My throat was sore in the morning! What was I thinking. The small thin blanket was no help. I tossed and turned all night. I think I was confused which direction I should face. My legs were confused too. I miss my snuggle/tickle partner!

2. I had no idea what to do for dinner. It seems I forgotten how to cook. So I panicked and ate McDonalds. Needless to say I was hungry the rest of the night. I did however find a bag of chocolate chips to hold me down. I think they are for baking. I had about 5 handfuls while watching Biggest Loser and pacing around until I got tired.

3. I thought it would be smart to write down a to do list to keep me busy. However, I couldn't do any of it. Instead, I played my guitar until my fingers bled (not literately). I played, How to be a Tycoon on Facebook and channel surfed on TV. I was really frustrated with myself. I cant stand not doing something I had planned. So today will be better! See my new list below.

1. Cook dinner or go to Whataburger whichever is easier
2. Exercise 24 hour fitness
3. Pick up plastic barrel for Compost Tumbler (maybe)
4. Turn off AC and get thick comforter! Don't forget this one!
5. If not raining mow yard.
6. If frustrated disregard all the above, except #4 and RELAX!!!

Well, I better go back to work. Wish me luck! Or better yet PRAY FOR ME!!!!

Web Comes Alive

It seems Nortel is on the news again, but this time its for good reasons. Nortel has been working on a project called web.alive. Its our attempt to move into the 3d world. You can read more about it by going to www.projectchainsaw.com.

Basically, a company, lets say an electronic store wants to sale their products online. Typically you can search through their products by category, read reviews left by people or compare products specs. But that approach isn't very dynamic. Sometimes its nice to hear what others customers are asking. See the product in your hands. Bottom line, you loose a lot of the interactions you would normally get in person by shopping online.

web.alive combines the online experience with in-person experience.

First, you start by creating an avatar. This is a computer person you create. Its similar to Nintendo's WI or Xbox 360 avatars. If you don't know ask you kids. They know. You can then walk your avatar in to a virtual store all in 3D. Lets say you see on the shelf a sweet flat panel TV you like. Well, you can walk over to that TV, click on the product to watch a video demo or see specs, costs, etc.

Or take it up a notch. You can walk over to a live employee and ask direct questions using a USB headset. They can hear you and you can hear them all live. Or lets say you walk up to a customer in the store. You can speak to them too. Ask them questions that maybe are not found on the FAQ link. Or just say hi. The technology allows you to hear others who are online shopping with you. The sound technology is based on distance in this 3D world. So walk away and you cant hear the person talking anymore. Walk up to someone and ease drop on their conversation. Listen to the employee talk to another customer. Or just mute someone because you don't want to hear them at all.

Its truly endless what you could do with this product. E-Commerce, school environments or a training seminar, its taking the web and making it come alive!

It might not completely replace going to the store but it sure would make things convenient and cool!

Dog Food

Last night I had a great opportunity to see a Christmas show. Katie's mom is a music teacher at Covenant School. Its a private christian school who held its annual Christmas chapel. It was beautiful. Lots of wonderful Christmas songs sung by kindergartners and older kids and much more. Katie's mom did a great job conducting the songs. It was really nice and fun. However, I have to admit I felt a little weird.

You see prior to coming out to the event, Katie and I went to serve food at the Center of Hope. Its a women's homeless shelter at Union Gospel Church downtown Dallas. It something we have the privilege of doing for a while now. The women there with their children come out for a nice hot meal. We served beef stew, corn muffin, rice, and cheese veggies.

I couldn't help but notice the difference the kids and mom's are from the shelter and those attending and participating in the play. Some obvious differences like the way everyone looked, how they dressed, how the kids behaved, etc. I saw one parent with their video camera filming their child singing songs. Laughing. Enjoying their kid perform in front of a large crowd at this nice church.

When just an hour ago, a parent at the shelter said "I heard their serving dog food tonight?"

Katie and I talked about it on our way home.

What if those kids from the shelter had the chance to go to a school like Covenant. Would the moms think that was a good idea if they could? Why do some kids have better opportunities then others? And after everything is said and done, should it really matter?

Procrastination

I have given a lot of thought about writing my first blog. What is the requirements? The Format? The subject? I thought about it so much in fact, that my brain was exhausted and it couldn't tell my fingers to go and start one. Typical of me actually. Putting in a lot of thought but little action. I "thought" this might be some form of procrastination or something. I don't know, but i was curious to understand why. So I decided to do some more brain exercises and research during my lunch time at work. AND of course log my actions in whatever format a blog is suppose to have.

I am not sure if this kind of a blog will send me to the top read blog sites in history or whether my countless number of blog readers will get overly excited about but....I'm hoping it will leap start my blog writing and who knows, it could, at the same time, provide good self development. (just in case those IT guys are wondering why I have been on this website for about 1 hour)

So where else to research by online. My first search entered in yahoo of course went like this: "so what causes people to not write a blog." I know what your thinking. For some strange reason, that sentence is missing something or written wrong. I spent a while trying to figure that out and decided the best thing to do is leave it and move on. So here are the results:

Why Needing to Be Liked Causes People to Not Like you

Smart People Write

The Causes of Terrorism: It's Not about Money

Race-related blog drawing white-hot reactions

And my personal favorite...101 people who are screwing up Canada (and 10 who are not)

After doing some further countless searching and even looking for a picture to add I realized I have 5 minutes before our team meeting. I cant believe how fast time went! My phone just rang too, I hope it wasn't important. Oh I forgot I need to send an email. How fast stuff PILES up on you.

Anyway...I hope this meeting isn't a waste of time. I have a lot of things i need to do...
